Dzogchen Monastery
Welcome to Dzogchen Monastery in Nepal. Established in Kathmandu by TulkuPegyal Rinpoche in 1995, the full Tibetan name of our monastery is GönThubten Do NgagShedrubDargye Ling [Monastery for Spreading the Buddhadharma: the Teachings and Practices from both Sutra and Tantra].

Firmly rooted in the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism, our particular branch of Dzogchen Monastery was established by the later, our root monastery, of course, is the ancient Dzogchen Monastery inside Tibet. And our parent monastery is Dzogchen Monastery in India, which is the residence of Dzogchen RinpocheTulkuPegyal.

It was in 1995 that Dzogchen Rinpoche sent TulkuPegyal to Kathmandu in order to establish a branch monastery there – the one we now call home.

For some years, until TulkuPegyal passed away in 2001, our monastery survived largely with the help and support which came from some very kind lamas and from TulkuPegyal’s many friends and students around the world.

In the years directly following TulkuPegyal’s passing, our monastery building and even our small community suffered an unfortunate decline.
But, with your prayers and support, hopefully all that will change for the better very soon.

TulkuPegyal’s reincarnation has been found in Australia!
He is the son of his former students there.
The young boy – known as TulkuJigmeSherabGyaltsen– was recognized and enthroned by Dzogchen Rinpoche in India [January 2010].
And, we are told, the infant will return once more to us in Kathmandu when he reaches 8 years of age.
Then will continue with his spiritual training and education … the circle of life continues.

Appointed the new Abbot of  GönThubten Do NgagShedrubDargye Ling in Kathmandu. They are Nepal’s Dzogchen Monastery.

When he was 4 years old, DilgoKhyentse Rinpoche came to TulkuSangyeDorje’s region and recognised him as a tulku among other tulkus. They were not actually named regarding whose tulku they were.
The  young TulkuSangyeDorje was about to enter Shechen monastery when the abbot of Dzogchen monastery claimed him as theirtulku and he was formally recognized as the reincarnation of JikmeYontonGompa, the 6th Dzogchen Rinpoche’s root guru.

He studied at the Dzogchen monastery in Kham until he was 9 years old, at which time he left for China where he attended a Chinese school until the age of 18.
He then travelled to Nepal where he studied classical Tibetan for two years and later entered the shedra at the Dzogchen monastery in southern India for four years.

Ultimately, at the young age of 24, TulkuSangyeDorjee was requested by the 7th Dzogchen Rinpoche to hold TulkuPegyal’s monastery in Kathmandu.
Now he lives there, caring for the monastics and lay people whose work, study and practice he greatly encourages and nurtures.
Their little monastery, located near the world-famous stupa at Swoyambhunath, Kathmandu, has always been the place for people to request prayers and practice for their loved ones who are facing difficulties in life or who have passed away.
Their little monastic community consists of TulkuSangyeDorjeehimself, some senior monks and nuns, and a group of young monks – some of whom are very new indeed.
